It’s the holiday season, which means consumers are looking for that perfect gift for loved ones. A Christmas prankster posted a stoner-themed holiday item on Wal-Mart.com – a “Weed Marijuana Leaf Christmas Tree.” The item didn’t stay up on Wal-Mart’s website for very long, as it was removed on 12/13/17. Whoever posted the product probably won’t keep their job long after the holiday party, either. Because as you know, hilarious things like this product are never well-kept as secrets on the Internet.

Most people who initially saw the product were probably tipped off to the fact that it was a joke the second they looked at the price. $250 for a 7-foot tall fake tree is more expensive than a lot of the other fake trees sold by the corporation. So a Christmas tree made out of fake pot leaves would not be worth that much. At some dispensaries, you could buy up to three ounces of legal weed for that much money.

If the outrageous price of the “Weed Marijuana Leaf Christmas Tree” wasn’t enough of a giveaway, the laughable ad copy on the product page most certainly was.

“This Pot Leaf Christmas tree will ‘light up’ the room and put your mind in the right head-space for holiday cheer,” the product page used to say.

“You’ll be able to relax and giggle at the marijuana leaves and decorate it as you please. This alternative Christmas tree is perfect for personal top shelf life at home or as a medical dispensary decoration. Green Wishes and Happy Holidhaze!”

Even though Wal-Mart pulled the weed leaf Christmas tree, the retail conglomerate still sells cannabis leaf cookie cutters in many of their stores. The fake product website said that the tree was being sold and shipped by Brands On Sale Inc., a costume and novelty company. There is no word on whether any customers tried to buy the weed leaf tree, but if there were any, that could make this story even funnier.

Perhaps this is yet another untapped niche for cannabis industry professionals to explore and tap into. There could be a pretty penny to be made on cannabis-themed decorations for all holidays throughout the year. The winter holiday season is a time for celebration and human connection, two things that are definitely improved when you’re consuming marijuana.

Would you buy a more reasonably priced weed leaf Christmas tree? Have you seen anything like it already – real or fake?
