INDOOR GROWS: Perfect for Winter

Cannabis does not care where it is grown. It cares how it is grown. The plant accepts its’ environment and takes advantage of the resources available. Cannabis does not care if it is indoors or outdoors, in a flower box or a field. Cannabis just does not mind. Consider that growing plants in a controlled environment typically has better yield than those in the wild or a backyard. Well-controlled lights, fresh water, air movement, nutrients, and the right growing medium can reduce stresses which rob the plant of needed energy. Indoors growers can keep plants stress free and happy in their comfort zone, providing greater yields.

Healthy plants have had sufficient and balanced nutrition, enough air in the medium (soil, coir, clay, etc.) for roots, and enough air movement for the shoots growing upward. They need balanced light colors and appropriate Day and Dark periods, and not too much or too little water; just enough to develop a thick protective ‘cutin’ layer on the plant’s leaves and stems. Oh and have no physical damage or plant infestations. It is that simple, right?

So, what do you need to get started? First, you need to think about where you’re going put your plants. Spare bedrooms, attics, and basements are all possibilities. Keep in mind you want to keep your grow room at 78 degrees and you are going to want good ventilation. If you have a window, you need to balance intake and exhaust so enough airflow is coming in and out.

Next you need to consider light. Remember you can have 18 hours of light in the vegetative stage and 12 hours in flower. In the flower stage you need absolute darkness in the other 12 hours for even small amounts of light in this stage can cause the plants to reverse from the flower stage back to the vegetative stage and disrupt your whole grow cycle.

So, let’s look at light fixtures as there are lots and lots of choices. For the vegetative stage, I recommend fluorescents. T5’s are great, reasonably priced and efficient. Depending on how many plants you have fluorescents come in lots of different sizes and can be used for germination and cloning as well as through your whole vegetative stage. For flowering the 315 LEC or Light Emitting Ceramic’s are very efficient as they use 120v and include ballasts. You can do very well with 1 of each of these fixtures.

Last, let’s look at mediums and nutrient solutions. Rock Wool is great and really clean as it is made out of heated and spun Basalt rock. Coco is also very good and yes, that’s right, it is made from coconut. A great Coco to try is Amigo Bob’s as they have their own processed coconut combined with an easy to use nutrient supplement system. I myself am trying it for the first time and thus far am impressed by the results. A Rock Wool product you might try is Vegamatrix – I can say from experience it is great for growing.

If you trust in the plant and take care of these conditions your going to see strong and healthy growth.
